Track MetaHuman Deformations with Ruler
By Admin ·
When a deformation looks wrong, the first question is how wrong, exactly - and eyeballing it does not answer that. The Ruler in Mesh Morpher measures and tracks how morph targets, animations and animation curves move your chosen points of interest on a MetaHuman or any skeletal mesh, turning "the eyelid looks off" into "this point travels 0.4 units too far".
What the Ruler does
The Ruler lets you place measurement points on the mesh and then watch how deformations affect them:
- Measure in neutral - distances and positions on the undeformed mesh.
- Track under deformation - see how morph targets, animations and animation curves move each point of interest, live.
- Integrated where you work - the Ruler is available in the Mesh Morpher Sculpt Tools and in the Poser.
Using it
- Add points with a left-click on the locations you care about - lid edges, mouth corners, jawline.
- Remove points with a right-click.
- Play the expression or animation and read how each point moves.
- Save, load and clear ruler setups so recurring checks take seconds.
Where it earns its place
- Expression QA - verify a fixed blink actually closes by the same distance on both eyes.
- Corrective tuning - measure exactly how far a Pose Driver correction moves the surface, instead of guessing.
- Animator feedback - track how expressions affect points of interest across a performance and pinpoint frames that need corrective morphs.
- Before/after comparisons - quantify what a sculpt changed.
Tools used
The Ruler ships in Mesh Morpher Classic (and Studio), integrated with the Sculpt Tools and Poser workflows it measures.
