Meta Humans
Mesh Morpher Wrapper with MH and DAZ Characters
By Admin ·
Wrapping is how you move a shape between characters that share nothing - different topology, different proportions, different origins. In this tutorial we use the Mesh Morpher Wrapper to morph a MetaHuman into a DAZ character: the MetaHuman keeps its own topology, rig and pipeline, but takes on the DAZ body and face.
What is new in the Wrapper
The Wrapper received a major accuracy pass:
- Improved control points / landmarks - guide the wrap by pinning corresponding features (eye corners, nose tip, joints) on both meshes; see the control points reference.
- Better rigid and non-rigid fitting - the two-stage solve (align first, deform second) is markedly more accurate across the board.
The workflow
- Load the MetaHuman as the source (the mesh that will deform) and the DAZ character as the target (the shape to match).
- Place control points on matching features of both meshes - the denser around detail like eyes and mouth, the better the correspondence.
- Run the rigid fit to align scale and orientation, then the non-rigid fit to conform the MetaHuman to the DAZ shape.
- Bake the result as a morph target or a new mesh - a MetaHuman with DAZ proportions, still fully MetaHuman under the hood.
Tips
- Landmarks beat iteration counts. If a region fits badly, add control points there before touching solver settings.
- Wrap skeletal meshes directly. The Wrapper deforms skeletal meshes into other meshes with different topology - no need to detour through static meshes.
- Fit the skeleton afterwards. A DAZ-proportioned MetaHuman needs its bones to follow - generate Bonesnapshots with the Poser so animation stays correct.
- Refit the eye components with Relative Restore after big facial changes.
Related workflows
For the full conform-mesh pipeline - turning an arbitrary character into a true custom MetaHuman - follow the step-by-step 3D wrapping guide, then transfer the textures. The Wrapper ships in Mesh Morpher Classic; the node-based equivalent lives in Mesh Morpher Graph and Studio.
